Hundreds of demonstrators denounce Netanyahu in London prior to his meeting with Sunak
On Friday , Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met his British counterpart, Rishi Sunak, at the British government headquarters, in the vicinity of which hundreds of demonstrators gathered to protest the project to reform the Israeli judicial system.
After Rome and Berlin, Netanyahu continues his diplomatic campaign in London in an attempt to convince Western countries to oppose returning to the agreement related to the Iranian nuclear file.
However, his visit to the United Kingdom coincides with a very tense atmosphere in Israel, amid divisions over the project to reform the judicial system, which limits the powers of the Supreme Court.
Since the project was announced in early January by the most right-wing Israeli government, massive demonstrations have been organized in the country every week.
In London, hundreds of people waving Israeli flags demonstrated in front of Downing Street Friday morning as Sunak greeted Netanyahu and booed.
"I think that Netanyahu is trying to dominate the Supreme Court to make Israel a dictatorship, and we have to object to that as forcefully as possible," said the 50-year-old Israeli Alon, who lives in London.
Dozens of other demonstrators raised Palestinian flags to protest against the Israeli "occupation" of the Palestinian territories.
Several Western countries, including the United States and Germany, expressed concern about the reform project, and the Israeli president warned last week of a "civil war".
The United Kingdom did not comment publicly on the controversial reform project, and on Tuesday it signed a "road map" to strengthen the partnership between the two countries in the long term, especially in the technology and security sectors.
