The Secretary-General of the Islamic Christian Organization for the Support of Jerusalem and Holy Sites, Hatem Abdel Qader, said, "We thank the Kingdom of Morocco, king, government, and people for this achievement, which would alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian citizens who move between the West Bank and Jordan, stressing that Morocco stands as a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause at all levels and in all sectors." In turn, the political analyst, Dr. Ahmed Rafiq Awad, head of the Al-Quds Center for Future Studies at Al-Quds University, said, "There is a commendable Moroccan effort that is added to the rest of the other efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians in their movements with dignity and freedom, especially at the Al-Karama crossing. Shehab expressed his hope that this step would be the first in order for the Kingdom of Morocco to play a role that opens up political horizons to save the Palestinian cause from liquidation, appealing to Moroccan King Mohammed VI in his capacity as Chairman of the Jerusalem Committee to pressure Israel to stop the policy of Judaizing Jerusalem, attacks on holy places and demolitions of homes. Also, Moroccan efforts contribute to the permanent opening of the Rafah crossing to help the people of the Gaza Strip alleviate the unjust siege imposed on them for more than 15 years.
It is noteworthy that Israel announced that it had decided, with Moroccan mediation, to soon open the Karama crossing around the clock.
