Ukraine's foreign minister proposes to Zelensky to sever diplomatic relations with Iran

Kiev ( Ukraine ) (AFP) Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Tuesday proposed to President Volodymyr Zelensky to cut diplomatic ties with Iran , which has been accused of supplying drones used by Russia for strikes.

"In light of the massive destruction caused by Iranian drones to civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and the deaths and injuries inflicted on our people... I present to the president a proposal to sever diplomatic relations with Iran," Kuleba said in a video posted on Facebook.

The Ukrainian minister said that Tehran has provided Russia with drones "while telling us that it is against war and does not support any party."

In recent days, Kiev has repeatedly said that Russia is using Iranian-made drones — including the Shahed 136 — to strike Ukraine's civilian energy infrastructure.

To justify his proposal, Kuleba emphasized "publishing reports on the possibility of continued arms supplies from Iran to Russia," after press articles indicated the imminent delivery of Iranian surface-to-surface missiles to Moscow.

In the video, he said, "Iran's actions betray evil and are lies that we will not tolerate...Tehran bears full responsibility for destroying relations with Ukraine."

But Dmytro Kuleba promised to reconsider this proposal "if Iran stops supplying weapons to Russia."
