Germany offers two grants worth 32 million euros to support the education sector in Jordan
AMMAN (Xinhua) - The Jordanian Ministry of Planning signed two agreements with the German Reconstruction Bank in Jordan today (Sunday) to provide two grants from the German government, amounting to 32 million euros, through the bank to the Kingdom of Jordan to support the needs of the education sector.
A statement by the Ministry of Planning stated that the first agreement includes a grant of 25 million euros, to finance the additional salaries of teachers in Jordanian public schools within the framework of the project to support the access of Syrian refugee students to formal education.
As for the second grant agreement, amounting to 7 million euros, it will be directed to finance the consultancy services needed to prepare the designs for building schools.
The statement quoted the Jordanian Minister of Planning, Nasser Al-Shuraida, who signed the two agreements, with the deputy director of the German Reconstruction Bank in Jordan, Sawsan Aruri, the Jordanian government's thanks to the German government for Jordan's continued support in various fields, as Germany is one of Jordan's most important partners in the development and reform process, as aid contributes German support for important vital sectors such as education, water and sanitation, in addition to the great role of the German government in standing by Jordan in facing the burdens resulting from the Corona and Syrian refugee crises, and its efforts to mobilize the necessary international support to help Jordan in facing these circumstances.
Al-Shuraideh stressed that the provision and sustainability of foreign aid to Jordan reflects the extent of respect and appreciation by the international community for Jordan and its regional and global role, and in recognition of the reform efforts undertaken by the Kingdom in all fields, in addition to the understanding of international and donor agencies of Jordan's development needs and the size of the challenges and burdens it faces.
The Jordanian Minister of Planning had revealed that the aid announced by Germany to Jordan at the conclusion of the Jordanian-German governmental negotiations held in Amman early this month on development cooperation for the period 2022-2023 amounted to 413.9 million euros.
