Flood death toll rises to 82 in Bangladesh
DHAKA (Xinhua) - Floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains and heavy river flows in Bangladesh have killed 82 people since last month, authorities said.
The daily flood report issued by the Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room on Saturday said most of the victims drowned but some died due to snake bites, lightning and other causes in the flooded areas from May 17 to June 25.
At least nine deaths were reported in the 24 hours through Saturday morning.
Of those deceased, seven people died from drowning in flood waters, one from a snake bite, and another from other causes.
