The Israeli Cabinet ratifies the agreement with Lebanon

A translation of "Jerusalem" dot com - The Israeli cabinet, the cabinet, voted on Wednesday on the agreement to demarcate the maritime borders with Lebanon .


According to the Hebrew website Ynet, all the ministers voted in favor of the agreement, except for Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked, who abstained from voting.


Shaked's office said in a statement, "The vote that took place today was not a vote on the agreement itself, but on the prime minister's declaration at the end of the cabinet session... Shaked supports her position that she does not support the agreement, and she will oppose it in the Knesset."


According to the site, Acting Prime Minister Naftali Bennett voted in favor of the agreement, although it was previously reported that he would refuse to sign it.


Bennett said in a tweet to him via Twitter, that the border demarcation negotiations took place during his presidency of the government, and that he voted on them today because they do not represent harm to Israel, nor do they achieve achievements for Lebanon, and therefore they are acceptable.


While a statement by the Cabinet said after the vote: "There is an importance and urgency to reach a maritime agreement with Lebanon during this period."


During the session, IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and Intelligence Division Chief Aharon Haliva presented the updated intelligence review to the ministers and spoke about the security need for the agreement as well as the security assessments.


The agreement will be presented to the Knesset for a vote.
