Amman - (AFP) - Five Pakistanis, a father, a mother, and their three children, died in a fire that broke out in their tent in the Karak governorate, in the center of the kingdom, according to a Jordanian security source.

And a statement quoted the spokesman for the Public Security Directorate, Amer Al-Sartawi, as saying, “The fire and ambulance teams of the Karak Civil Defense Directorate (118 km south of Amman) put out a fire today (Tuesday) that broke out in two tents in the Ghor Al-Mazraa area, which resulted in the death of five people of an Asian nationality as a result of the fire.” They suffer severe burns."

A security source, who preferred not to be identified, told AFP that the victims were of Pakistani nationality and worked in agriculture.

For his part, the director of forensic medicine in the southern region, Dr. Hassan Hawari, said, "The bodies of five people arrived at the forensic medicine office as a result of their exposure to charred burns that led to their death."

He added, "The bodies belong to a father (34 years old), a mother (31 years old), and three daughters (6 years, 8 years, and 9 years)."

Al-Sartawi confirmed that the security services "opened an investigation to find out the causes of the fire."

The source of the fire is not yet known, but primitive and cheap heating methods usually lead to such fires, especially since the Kingdom is exposed to a cold wave accompanied by rain.

Thousands of Pakistanis work in Jordan , especially in agriculture, and most of them live in tents erected near the farms where they work.
