The Bar Association for "Al-Quds": We will collectively approve the transfer to the register of non-practicing lawyers

Ramallah - exclusive to Al-Quds.com - The Palestinian Bar Association confirmed today, Wednesday, that it is in the process of approving a decision to transfer to the register of non-practicing lawyers collectively, during a meeting that will be held at the end of this month, which paralyzes the justice sector.

This decision comes in conjunction with the continuation of union activities that reject the enforcement of decisions by laws amending procedural laws and the implementation law, as protest activities have been continuing for about ten days by the Bar Association.

The Secretary of the Bar Council, Daoud Darawi, told Al-Quds.com that the Bar Association decided to voluntarily move to the register of non-practicing lawyers, and we put the approval of this decision on the agenda of the Bar Council meeting on the thirty-first of this month, which means transferring Lawyers to refrain from practicing the legal profession, a step taken for the first time and precedent on the international and Arab levels.

Darawi stressed that this step comes as a form of civil disobedience against the recent unconstitutional decisions, and court sessions become without lawyers, and trials cannot take place, which constitutes a collapse and paralysis of the justice sector, and we hope that we will not reach this step, and that the decisions will be canceled by law. We cancel this meeting.

Darawi pointed out that a practicing lawyer who pays fees has the right to request a transfer to a non-practicing lawyer's record for any special circumstance, and he is prohibited from practicing the legal profession, but for the matter to be done collectively, this is a precedent and for the first time.

Today, Wednesday, the lawyers carried out a sit-in in front of the Ramallah First Instance and Reconciliation Court, as well as suspending the full working hours, today, and tomorrow, Thursday, as a continuation of the group of protest activities that began as of the third of this month, as part of activities according to Darawi, whose goal is for citizens to reach a fair trial. and the right of access to normal litigation.

Darawi pointed out that the Supreme Judicial Council closed the courts of the beginning and the reconciliation of Ramallah and Nablus and brought in security reinforcements, but the sit-in took place without any friction with the security, then the security withdrew after that.

On the other hand, Darawi stressed that while the protest activities of lawyers continue, the door to dialogue is still open and has not been closed.
