Germany freezes Russian funds worth 143 million euros

Berlin - (dpa) - Three months after the start of the Russian war against Ukraine, Germany froze funds amounting to about 143 million euros from major Russian businessmen and other persons on the European Union's sanctions list.


And the German Ministry of Finance announced today, Monday, that shortly after the start of the war, the value of the frozen funds amounted to only 342 thousand euros until the end of February.


As of May 23, the value of Russian funds frozen in Germany amounted to about 142 million and 990 thousand euros.


According to the data, Germany relies on the European Union's regulation already drawn up by the Union in 2014 in the wake of Russia's annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea peninsula.
