At least 32 people were killed in two traffic accidents in Turkey
Istanbul - (AFP) - At least 32 people were killed and 50 injured Saturday in two traffic accidents in southeastern Turkey, according to Turkish media.
16 people were killed and 21 injured in the first traffic accident between an ambulance and a bus on a highway linking the city of Gaziantep with the city of Nizip.
And the Turkish news agency "Demiroren" that a passenger bus was running on a highway and hit an ambulance, a fire engine and a car for a press team that had all gone to the scene of a previous accident.
Among the dead were three firefighters, four paramedics and two journalists from a Turkish news agency, according to local media.
Scenes broadcast by the Turkish agency showed the partially destroyed back section of the ambulance, the bus on its side and the front part smashed.
A few hours later, at least 16 other people were killed and about thirty injured 250 km to the east in a truck run-over accident, according to what the Turkish Minister of Health announced Saturday.
"16 people died and 29 others were injured, including 8 in critical condition, in an accident that occurred after the brakes of a truck ran into a crowd in Derik" in Mardin province, Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.
Video clips broadcast by Turkish media showed a driver who lost control of his truck crashing at full speed into several cars and running over pedestrians trying to flee.
Turkey's official Anadolu news agency reported that a traffic accident involving three cars occurred at the same place shortly before, and rescue teams were at the scene when the truck plowed into the crowd.
