A 5-magnitude earthquake hits Kuwait without causing damage

Kuwait - (AFP) - The Kuwaiti National Seismological Network recorded on Saturday an earthquake measuring 5 degrees on the Richter scale, which was felt by residents of the Gulf state, but did not cause any damage, according to the authorities.

The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research said on Twitter that the network located the earthquake in the southwest of the country, and it occurred at about 04:28 (01:28 GMT).
She added that the earthquake occurred at a depth of five kilometers underground, and "it was felt by many citizens and residents across the country," while the Kuwait Fire Service reported that there was no damage.

Earthquakes in Kuwait are rare, but the country is close to Iran, which sits on several major tectonic plates and is subject to frequent seismic activity.
