Chinese Ministry of Commerce: US chip bill will disrupt global trade
BEIJING - (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce said Friday that the Chips and Science Act passed by the US Congress contains provisions restricting the normal economic, trade and investment activities of related companies in China, which will distort the global semiconductor supply chain and disrupt international trade.
The ministry added in a statement that the US legislation is a differentiated support policy typical of the industry with huge amounts of support to be provided to the US chip sector.
The statement said the US bill should be implemented in accordance with relevant WTO rules and principles of openness, transparency and non-discrimination, so as to help maintain the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains and avoid fragmentation.
The statement noted that China will continue to follow the developments of the draft law and take strong measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests when necessary.
