Foreign ministers of 4 Arab and European countries call for resolving the conflict on the basis of the "two-state solution"

New York - "Jerusalem" dot com - Arab and European foreign ministers said that resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution is indispensable for achieving a comprehensive peace in the region.


In a joint statement at a meeting in New York on the peace process in the Middle East, on the sidelines of the seventy-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly, the foreign ministers of Egypt, France, Germany and Jordan affirmed their commitment to enabling and supporting all efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East on the basis of international law and Security Council resolutions. relevant and agreed parameters, including the Arab Peace Initiative.


They stressed that a two-state solution negotiated only on the basis of the June 4, 1967 lines, and in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, guarantees an independent, contiguous, and viable Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with Israel, that can fulfill the legitimate aspirations of both Palestinians and Israelis.


They stressed the need to resume direct, serious, meaningful and effective negotiations between the two parties as soon as possible, and to urgently create political and economic horizons, in order to preserve the prospects for a two-state solution.


They stressed the need to refrain from all unilateral measures that undermine the viability of the two-state solution and the prospects for a just and lasting peace, and the importance of respecting the unity, continuity and integrity of the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, and this includes the immediate cessation of all settlement activities, the seizure of land and the evacuation of Palestinians from their homes, In violation of international law.


The foreign ministers expressed their concern about the evacuation of the residents of the "Masafer Yatta" area, and stressed the respect for the rights of citizens in the Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhoods with regard to their homes.


They expressed their concern about the recent escalation in Jerusalem, and stressed the importance of respecting and supporting the status quo of the holy places in Jerusalem. In this regard, they recalled the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem. They stressed that religious holidays should never be used for political purposes.


They stressed the need to take the necessary steps to bring about a fundamental change in the political, security and economic situation in the Gaza Strip, and praised the important role played by Egypt and UNESCO in efforts to stop the latest round of escalation in the Gaza Strip.


The foreign ministers reaffirmed the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in providing humanitarian assistance and basic services, and the need to provide it with political and financial support to fulfill its mandate from the United Nations General Assembly before its renewal by the end of this year.


They welcomed the ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Kingdom of Sweden, to discuss the grave implications of human rights, development, politics and UNRWA's financial crisis.


The foreign ministers stressed that they will continue to work with all parties to create realistic prospects for resuming a credible political process and search for options for cooperation with international and regional partners in this regard, and that achieving a just and lasting peace is a strategic goal that is in the interest of all parties and a key to security and stability in the region.


The meeting of the foreign ministers of Egypt, France, Germany and Jordan in New York was attended by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East, Tor Wiesenland, for consultation and coordination in order to advance the peace process in the Middle East towards a just, comprehensive and lasting peace based on the two-state solution. .
