272 displaced Afghans return home from Kabul
KABUL (Xinhua) -- Deputy Minister of Refugee Affairs and Repatriation in the Afghan caretaker government, Arsala Kharuti, said that 272 internally displaced persons (IDPs) were repatriated to their home states from the capital, Kabul, on Sunday.
The displaced were repatriated to their homes in the provinces of Ghazni, Bamyan, Daikundi and Wardak with the help of a joint program of UNHCR and the Afghan Ministry of Refugee Affairs and Repatriation.
According to the deputy minister, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provided each family with up to $200 in return for returning home.
According to officials with the Ministry of Refugee Affairs and Repatriation, those returning home will be helped by local relief agencies.
As many as 6,000 displaced families residing in Kabul have been repatriated to their home states in recent months, according to reports.
