Ramallah - "Jerusalem" dot com - Official data released today, Thursday, showed a sharp rise in the consumer price index, the main determinant of inflation, last September, driven especially by the rise in the prices of vegetables, chicken and eggs.

The Central Bureau of Statistics said that the consumer price index in Palestine increased in September by 1.30%, on a monthly basis, as a result of the increase in the prices of fresh vegetables by 12.16%, the prices of fresh chicken by 11.69%, and the prices of eggs by 8.31%.

Electricity prices also increased by 5.34%, fresh fruit prices by 4.99%, education services prices by 2.35%, diesel prices by 2.22%, dried vegetables prices by 2.18%, and health group prices by 1.48%.

On the other hand, the prices of fresh meat decreased by 1.82%, the prices of gasoline by 1.71%, the prices of grain flour “white flour” by 1.01%, and the prices of vegetable oils by 0.81%.

Geographically, the consumer price index in the Gaza Strip recorded a sharp increase of 2.12% during September 2022 compared to August 2022. This is due to the increase in the price of fresh chicken by 24.42%, the price of fresh vegetables by 11%, and the price of eggs by 7.85%. The health group prices increased by 4.34%, the prices of potatoes by 2.87%, the prices of dried vegetables by 2.85%, and the prices of fresh fruits by 0.91%, despite the decrease in the prices of live, fresh, chilled or frozen fish by 4.19%, the prices of bread by 3.92%, and the prices of fresh meat. By 1.75%, and the prices of grain flour “white flour” by 1.26%.

In the West Bank, excluding Jerusalem, the consumer price index increased by 1.20% during September 2022 compared to August 2022. This is due to the increase in the prices of fresh vegetables by 12.10%, the prices of eggs by 9.56%, the prices of fresh chicken by 9.03%, and the prices of Fresh fruits by 6.73%, electricity prices by 6.66%, dried vegetables prices by 3.27%, education services prices by 2.84%, liquid fuels used as fuel for "diesel" cars by 2.52%, and health group prices by 1.34%, despite the drop in oil prices. Vegetables increased by 1.69%, the prices of liquid fuel used as fuel for cars “gasoline” increased by 1.39%, and the prices of fresh meat increased by 1.36%.

In East Jerusalem, the consumer price index increased by 0.5% during September 2022 compared to August 2022, as a result of an increase in the prices of fresh vegetables by 14.72%, the price of bread by 11.15%, the price of electricity by 10.33%, and the price of vegetable oil by 4.49%. And the prices of education services by 3.82%, and the prices of fresh fruits by 3.03%, despite the decrease in the prices of potatoes by 34.99%, the prices of dried vegetables by 15.89%, the prices of gas by 4%, the prices of fresh meat by 3.93%, and the prices of grain flour “white flour”. By 3.61%, diesel prices by 3.10%, gasoline by 2.83%, and fresh chicken prices by 2.79%.

Over the nine months since the beginning of the year, the inflation rate increased by 3.57%, by 4.49% in East Jerusalem, 3.55% in the rest of the West Bank, and 3.06% in the Gaza Strip, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The increase in the inflation rate over the past 12 months amounted to 4.04%, by 4.50% in East Jerusalem, by 4.26% in the rest of the West Bank, and by 3.06% in the Gaza Strip.
