Pentagon Reveals: US War on Iran Cost $25 Billion So Far

The US Department of Defense has disclosed official financial data, the first of its kind, illustrating the massive military spending on the armed confrontation with Iran. A senior Pentagon official confirmed that the total bill reached approximately $25 billion, noting that these figures represent initial and non-final estimates for the current phase of the conflict that erupted early this year.

In a briefing before the House Armed Services Committee, Jules Hurst, acting comptroller, explained that the bulk of this massive budget was consumed by securing munitions and direct combat operations. Hurst did not address whether these amounts include reconstruction plans or the restoration of US military bases in the Middle East, which suffered significant damage as a result of mutual attacks.

These field developments come at a time when the region is experiencing a state of cautious calm, with both sides adhering to a fragile ceasefire since the start of airstrikes on February 28. In parallel, Washington has reinforced its military presence by deploying tens of thousands of additional troops to the theater of operations, while keeping three aircraft carriers in a state of permanent combat readiness.

On the domestic political front, these figures have increased pressure on President Donald Trump's administration and the Republican Party, especially with the midterm congressional elections approaching in six months. The Democratic opposition seeks to exploit these exorbitant costs in its election campaigns, by linking unpopular military spending to the rising cost-of-living crises suffered by American citizens.

Recent opinion polls indicate a significant lead for the Democratic Party, putting the Republican majority in the House of Representatives before a fateful challenge to maintain its legislative influence. Observers believe that the continued financial bleeding on foreign battlefronts may be the decisive factor in voter trends, in the absence of a clear horizon for fully ending the conflict and establishing pillars of stability in the region.

The war has cost the United States about $25 billion so far, and this is the first official estimate of the conflict's costs.
