French Foreign Ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoine affirmed his country's opposition to any form of Israeli annexation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.
During the ministry's weekly press conference on Thursday, Lemoine stated that Paris condemns Israel's resumption of attacks on Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
He described the ceasefire violation as a "tragic setback," stressing France's opposition to any annexation efforts, whether in the West Bank or Gaza.
The French Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed the importance of resuming negotiations in the region, noting that the number of Palestinian deaths has reached catastrophic levels.
He also condemned the targeting of UN civilian infrastructure in Gaza, describing it as "unacceptable" and that humanitarian workers should not be targeted under any circumstances.
He revealed that Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stressed to his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa'ar, during their meeting in Paris this morning, the need for Israel to adhere to its responsibilities under the ceasefire agreement in effect since January 19, as does Hamas.
In a related context, Lemoine warned that the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem by extremist Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir constitutes a violation of the historical status quo of the holy sites.
On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to escalate the genocide in the Gaza Strip and implement US President Donald Trump's plan to displace Palestinians.
With full American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 165,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.
Palestinian authorities warn that the widespread and destructive Israeli aggression comes "as part of a plan by Benjamin Netanyahu's government to annex the West Bank and declare sovereignty over it, which could represent an official declaration of the death of the two-state solution."
