Harsh life under tents in Gaza: Continued suffering amid the resumption of war

As the war resumes, the lives of thousands of families in Gaza have become a daily struggle under tents, after the bombing and destruction forced them to flee their homes. These families face dire humanitarian conditions, as the camps lack even the most basic necessities of life, amid bitter cold at night and intense heat during the day, along with a severe shortage of clean water, food, and basic services.

“We never imagined we’d be living in a tent,” says Abu Mahmoud, a displaced person in a temporary camp in Gaza City. “We had a home, a stable life, and now we’re here struggling to survive.” He adds that life in the tents is extremely difficult, with rainwater seeping in, and families suffering from a lack of privacy and the spread of disease due to unsanitary conditions.

For their part, relief organizations confirm that the humanitarian crisis is worsening as the war continues, with families suffering from food shortages and a scarcity of fuel for cooking and heating. Children also suffer from a lack of healthcare and malnutrition, threatening a humanitarian disaster unless the situation is addressed quickly.

This comes amidst the resumption of war on the Gaza Strip following the announcement and signing of a ceasefire on January 17, 2025, and the displacement of residents of Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, and eastern Shuja'iyya due to the ongoing bombardment of these areas.
