The Commission of Prisoners' Affairs and Ex-Prisoners stated that the detention conditions of prisoners at Gilboa Prison are dire and tragic. Scabies is widespread among prisoners, with deliberate medical neglect by the prison administration. Despite the presence of severe and incurable medical cases, the administration deliberately does not separate these prisoners from the rest of the population.
The Commission's lawyer stated in a statement on Monday that the food provided to prisoners is poor and insufficient, despite the advent of Ramadan, and that the break lasts only one hour.
The Commission's lawyer visited prisoner Muhammad Saleh Muhammad Hamdan (35 years old) from Al-Ain refugee camp in Nablus, who has been in administrative detention since March 22, 2023. He was shot with three bullets in both feet, and did not undergo any physical therapy after the bullets were removed, which led to severe nerve damage. He wears a pacemaker that must be replaced every five years, and the time to replace it is June 18, 2024.
Hamdan also suffers from the arduous journey of replacing the pacemaker. He is taken out of the hospital at 10:00 a.m. and is then returned the next morning at around 11:00 a.m. He remains shackled the entire time. He also suffers from scabies and constant itching on his body without treatment, and has lost 15 kilograms of weight.
