Sisi: We will push with all our might to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi stressed on Wednesday that his country "will push with all its might" to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
This came during a speech he delivered at a celebration in the capital, Cairo, on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of Egyptian Police Day, in the presence of a number of senior officials and security leaders.
On January 19, a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel began to take effect in a first phase lasting 42 days, during which a second and third phase will be negotiated, through negotiations mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States.
In his speech, Al-Sisi considered the "ceasefire agreement in Gaza a living witness to the tireless efforts and continuous endeavors made by Egypt alongside its partners in this regard."
He added, stressing: "We will push with all our might to implement this agreement in full, in an effort to stop the bloodshed of our Palestinian brothers, restore services to the Strip so that it becomes viable, and prevent any attempts to displace its residents due to these difficult circumstances."
He stressed that Egypt categorically rejects the displacement of citizens from the Gaza Strip, in order to preserve the existence of the Palestinian cause itself.
January 25 is considered a holiday for the Egyptian police, whose members refused on that day in 1952 to evacuate the Ismailia Governorate building (northeast) and hand over their weapons to the British occupation, which led to clashes that resulted in killing and wounding of dozens of its men.
