Blinken: It was necessary to maintain support for Israel

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said it was "essential to maintain support for Israel to prevent the conflict from expanding and resulting in death and destruction," as he put it.

Blinken stressed - in an interview with the New York Times - that the administration of President Joe Biden still believes that reaching a ceasefire agreement that returns the detainees to their homes is the fastest and most effective way to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip permanently.

Blinken added that the suffering in Gaza is making the US administration do what it can to end the conflict. He continued, "There have been times when we thought Israel was not doing enough on aid and we have pressed for action."

The US Secretary of State pointed out that the administration spent months working on a post-war plan in Gaza with many countries, especially with what he described as "Arab partners."

He stressed that if this administration does not have the opportunity to implement it, it will hand it over to the administration of President-elect Donald Trump, which will decide whether to implement it.

The US Secretary of State said that "Israel destroyed Hamas's military capabilities and eliminated the leadership responsible for the events of October 7," according to what he said.

With absolute American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 154,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.

Israel continues its massacres, ignoring two arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court on November 21 against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against the Palestinians.
