Iran's first comment on Israel's strikes on Yemen
Iran on Thursday described Israeli attacks on Houthi ports and energy facilities in Yemen as a "flagrant violation of international law" in response to a missile attack, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said.
In a statement, Baqaei said that the Israeli attacks constitute a "flagrant violation of the principles and norms of international law," denouncing the "unconditional support provided by the United States" to Israel.
Earlier, the Israeli army announced that it carried out precise strikes on Houthi military targets, including ports and energy infrastructure in Sanaa, while Yemeni medical sources reported that 10 workers were killed as a result of the bombing of the port of Hodeidah and Ras Issa in western Yemen.
The Israeli army said in a statement that it "attacked terrorist targets of the terrorist Houthi regime in Yemen."
The statement added: "After the attack plans were approved by Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, Air Force warplanes, under the direction of the Intelligence Corps and the Navy, launched a series of raids a short while ago that targeted military targets of the terrorist Houthi regime in the western coastal sector and deep inside Yemen."
The statement continued: "The terrorist Houthi regime has carried out repeated attacks against the State of Israel, including launching drones and surface-to-surface missiles towards Israeli territory, most of which were successfully intercepted."
He added: "The terrorist Houthi regime has been working over the past year, under the direction and funding of Iran and in cooperation with Iraqi militias, to target Israel, destabilize regional stability, and obstruct freedom of international maritime navigation."
He added: "The Israeli army is determined to continue operating and targeting anyone who poses a threat to the citizens of the State of Israel wherever it is required."
