Citizens in the northern Gaza Strip: We are living a "real horror movie"
Residents of the northern Gaza Strip described life as resembling a "real horror movie" as Israeli bombardment continues on various areas of the besieged enclave, after a ceasefire agreement between Tel Aviv and Hezbollah in Lebanon went into effect.
Since October 6, Israel has been launching an intensive military campaign in the northern Gaza Strip, especially Jabalia and Beit Lahia.
Umm Ahmed Labad, 52, from Beit Lahia, said: “We are living a real horror movie. The situation is indescribable. The Israeli bombing does not stop from the air or on the ground.”
"We are afraid to leave the house. We will leave when the (Israeli) army asks us to, as it did in the neighboring neighborhoods, but we do not know exactly where we will go," she was quoted as saying by Agence France-Presse.
In turn, Abu Muhammad al-Madhoun (55 years old) said, “The situation is catastrophic and is getting worse every day. The weather is cold and the food is expensive. A kilo of tomatoes costs 200 shekels (about $60). Who has the money to buy that?”
Humanitarian organizations have warned of the difficult conditions in northern Gaza, including the World Health Organization, which confirmed yesterday, Thursday, that the entire Strip, especially its northern part, is suffering from a severe shortage of medicine, food, fuel, and shelter.
The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, confirmed that the shelling "did not stop" in its vicinity, adding: "Shrapnel was scattered on the hospital."
Abu Safiya called for "providing protection to the workers, as 21 of our crews were injured in the past few days," stressing that "the situation in the northern Gaza Strip is tragic and extremely difficult, as the occupation does not allow anything to enter the area."
Only two hospitals are partially operating in the northern Gaza Strip: Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda.
Most hospitals in the Strip were extensively damaged during the war.
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, announced in a statement via the "X" platform that "the ongoing military operation in northern Gaza has displaced 130,000 people."
"The survival conditions are dwindling for the estimated 65-75,000 people who remain there" in northern Gaza, UNRWA said in a statement.
Last Wednesday, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah began to be implemented, more than a year after clashes broke out between them over the war in Gaza.
