A Man sets himself on fire in Boston to protest Gaza war
A man set himself on fire last Wednesday near the Israeli consulate in Boston, USA, in protest against Israel's killing of more than 41,000 Palestinians in its war on the Gaza Strip, and the complicity of the United States.
"My name is Matt Nelson and I am about to do an extreme act of protest. We are all responsible for the ongoing genocide in Gaza," the man said in a video he posted before the incident.
He added that the protest he will participate in is a call for the US administration to stop providing Israel with the money and weapons it uses to imprison and kill innocent Palestinians, and to pressure Israel to end the genocide in Gaza.
He also called for support for the indictment issued by the International Criminal Court against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other members of the Israeli government.
"Democracy is supposed to serve the will of the people, not the interests of the wealthy. Take back power, and liberate Palestine," he said.
According to NBC Boston, first responders confirmed that a man suffered serious burns. Nelson's current condition has not been reported.
On December 1, a woman, whose identity remains unknown, carrying a Palestinian flag was hospitalized in critical condition after setting herself on fire outside the Israeli consulate in Atlanta.
Police described the incident as an "extremist political protest." Israeli Consul General Anat Sultan Dadon called it an act of "hatred and incitement against Israel."
With American support, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, leaving more than 136,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amidst massive destruction and deadly famine.
In contempt of the international community, Israel continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
