Resignation of the head of the Israeli intelligence unit "8200"

On Thursday, the commander of the Israeli intelligence unit "8200", Yossi Shariel, informed the Chief of Staff of the army, Herzi Halevi, of his decision to resign due to the failure of October 7, according to Hebrew media.

This is the second Israeli military intelligence official to announce his resignation from his position due to the October 7 failure, after the head of the Military Intelligence Division, Aharon Halivya, who resigned last April.

The Israeli news website "Ynet" said: "The commander of Unit 8200, Yossi Shariel, informed the Chief of Staff of the army, Herzi Halevi, today (Thursday) of his resignation from the Israeli army after being responsible for the attack of October 7, 2023," referring to the attack by Palestinian factions in Gaza on towns and military bases adjacent to the Strip.

The website added: "Shariel is the second senior official in the Intelligence Division to resign from his position, after the resignation of the head of the Intelligence Division in the army, Aharon Haliva."

He pointed out that "Shariel was appointed commander of the unit in February 2021."
