Türkiye opens investigation into death of activist Aisha Nour

The Turkish government announced today, Thursday, the opening of an investigation into the martyrdom of the American-Turkish activist Aisha Nur Izgi Ece (26 years old) by the fire of the Israeli occupation army in the occupied West Bank.

Türkiye also confirmed that it would request international arrest warrants for the Israeli soldiers involved in the incident.

In a statement to the media, Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç said: "The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation into those responsible for the martyrdom of our sister Ayse Nour. Turkey has strong evidence about the incident, and will submit requests for international arrest warrants against the soldiers involved."

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the activist's body would arrive in Turkey tomorrow, stressing that Aisha was deliberately killed by Israeli soldiers while participating in a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with the Palestinians. The ministry added: "We will make every effort to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that this crime does not go unpunished."

The Israeli army admitted earlier that the martyrdom of Aisha Nour in the town of Beita, south of Nablus, was the result of its forces opening fire, despite assurances that she did not participate in any confrontations.

The Washington Post revealed in a recent investigation that Israeli forces shot Aisha half an hour after the demonstrators withdrew from the demonstration site, contrary to what the Israeli army claimed.

US Vice President Kamala Harris said that the killing of Turkish-American activist Ayse Nur Azgi Aygi by Israeli soldiers was a "horrific tragedy that should never have happened."
