IDF Ground Forces Commander Resigns for 'Personal' Reasons

The commander of the Israeli army's ground forces, Tamir Yadai, submitted his resignation from his position for "personal" reasons.

"Ground Forces Commander Tamir Yadai has ended his term after three years due to personal circumstances," Army Radio said.

She added that "he will run for important positions in the future," without giving further details.

Israel Army Radio did not clarify when Yadai submitted his resignation.

For its part, the Hebrew news website "Times of Israel" quoted the army as saying that Yadai "resigned from his position for personal reasons."

"Yadai has served as commander of the Ground Forces for the past three years, and IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and Defense Minister Yoav Galant have approved his request," he added.

He pointed out that "Yadai is expected to complete his duties in the coming weeks, once a replacement officer is found, and it was not immediately clear who will replace him."

He continued: "The Israeli army said that Yadai will currently be on temporary leave, and will later submit his candidacy for important positions in the army."

The resignation comes at the height of the Israeli war on Gaza and the launch of an operation by the army in the northern West Bank, with the escalation continuing on the border with Lebanon.

Over the past months, several Israeli army commanders, most notably the head of the Military Intelligence Division, Major General Aharon Haliva, the commander of the Central Command, Yehuda Fuchs, and the commander of the Gaza Division, Avi Rosenfeld, have submitted their resignations due to the “failure” to thwart the Hamas attack on October 7.

On that day, Hamas attacked 11 military bases and 22 settlements, killing and capturing Israelis, in response to the "daily crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian people and their holy sites, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem," according to the movement.

With American support, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, leaving more than 135,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.

In contempt of the international community, Israel continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
