Safadi, Lazzarini discuss preparations for ministerial meeting to support UNRWA this month
Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi discussed today, Tuesday, with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, preparations for the ministerial meeting to support UNRWA, which the Kingdom will organize in cooperation with the Kingdom of Sweden on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly meetings this month.
Safadi and Lazzarini also discussed the Agency's essential role in serving Palestinian refugees, stressing the importance of the international community providing the political and material support the Agency needs to provide its basic services to refugees.
Safadi condemned all Israeli measures against UNRWA, stressing that they are a violation of international law that requires immediate international action to confront them.
Safadi stressed that no party can carry out the agency's main role, especially in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Strip continues.
In turn, Lazzarini appreciated the Kingdom's continued support for UNRWA's efforts to deliver humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip, and to mobilize international support for the agency to enable it to carry out its work in accordance with its UN mandate, and to ensure its continued provision of vital services to more than 5.9 million Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation.
