Iran's Revolutionary Guards: Our response to Israel may be long

The spokesman for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards said on Tuesday that the waiting period for Iran's response to Israel may be long, in light of the state of anticipation for an expected Iranian response to Israel following the assassination of the head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran on July 31.

Iranian media quoted the spokesman for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Brigadier General Ali Mohammad Naeini, as saying that Tehran "did not leave any attack on Iranian targets without a response," and said that Israel should await "timely and measured responses."

He added, "The passage of time is on our side, and our response may not resemble previous military operations and the response scenarios are not similar."

He said that Iran's military leaders "will take all matters into consideration, make a well-thought-out and precise decision, and their actions will be effective and will change the enemy's calculations."

He stressed that "military leaders have the ability to punish the enemy effectively," and that they "will not rush because the waiting period for a response may be long."

The Revolutionary Guards spokesman expressed his belief that the US moves to cease fire in Gaza are not sincere.

He considered that Washington is a party to the war and supports Israel comprehensively; and the Iranian official himself said that the political developments have nothing to do with Tehran's right to respond and avenge the assassination of Haniyeh.
