Israeli media: Blinken postpones his visit to the Middle East

Israeli news website Walla reported that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken postponed his visit to the Middle East, which was scheduled for today, due to uncertainty about the Iranian attack, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

According to the website, Blinken planned to visit Qatar, Egypt and Israel to discuss negotiations on the prisoner deal.

Axios reported, citing US officials, that Iran is not expected to launch an attack on Israel tonight.

Yesterday, Israeli media reported that the US Secretary of State will arrive in Israel on Tuesday evening on a tour that includes Qatar and Egypt.

Axios correspondent Barak Ravid said on social media Monday, citing a source, that Blinken is scheduled to travel to the Middle East on Tuesday amid rising tensions in the region.

Ravid added that Blinken plans to visit Qatar, Egypt and Israel.

Intensive communications

Earlier, the US Secretary of State discussed, in a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, the importance of Hamas returning to negotiations in the middle of this month, where he stressed the importance of completing the necessary framework for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the release of detainees, in addition to the importance of the two parties to the conflict in Sudan attending the ceasefire negotiations.

Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude for Turkey’s partnership in securing the freedom of the Americans detained on August 1 and his support for the joint statement between the United States, Egypt, and Qatar urging the resumption of ceasefire talks in Gaza.

In Blinken's call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, they discussed diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region. Blinken also stressed the importance of Iraq's responsibility to protect coalition military advisers from attacks by groups allied with Iran.
