Putin: Russia follows with pain and concern the humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine

Russian President Vladimir Putin said during his talks with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow on Tuesday that Russia is following with pain and concern the humanitarian catastrophe in Palestine and is doing its utmost to support the Palestinian people.

He added that Russia's firm position on the Palestinian issue has not and will not change, saying that a Palestinian state must be established in accordance with international resolutions.

Putin stressed that the reason for the current crisis is primarily due to ignoring international resolutions regarding Palestine.

Putin stressed that his country "does not ignore what is happening in the Middle East, despite the situation related to the war against Ukraine."

Putin pointed out that Russia is doing its utmost to support the Palestinian people, saying: “As you know, we have sent about 700 tons of goods of various types, and we are doing our utmost to take advantage of every opportunity to support the Palestinian people.”

Stop the violations

For his part, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that the United Nations failed to issue a single enforceable resolution to resolve the Gaza crisis due to US policy.

Abbas stressed that the recommendations of the International Court of Justice are clear and demand that Israel stop its violations. He also called for a halt to the fighting and the provision of humanitarian aid.

Abbas stressed, "We will not allow the displacement of the Palestinian people."

Abbas's visit to Moscow will continue until Wednesday, after which he is scheduled to travel to Turkey to hold talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Moscow has repeatedly criticised the West for ignoring the need for an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with Russia embracing the principle of a two-state solution.

The Kremlin said late Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would discuss the situation in the Middle East with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow today.
