Washington: We continue to consult the parties in Geneva to end the Sudan crisis

US Special Envoy to Sudan Tom Perillio said on Monday that his country is continuing consultations with the parties within the framework of the international effort in Switzerland to end the Sudanese crisis.

"We continue consultations with the parties as part of the urgent international effort in Switzerland to end the crisis in Sudan," Perellio wrote in a series of posts on his X account.

Commenting on reports that the Rapid Support Forces bombed homes, hospitals and kindergartens, the US envoy said that killing innocent civilians, especially children, is “unacceptable.”

He stressed that "these events and all alleged violations of international humanitarian law are being discussed during the Swiss negotiations on humanitarian access and a cessation of hostilities in the country."

On Sunday evening, the US Special Envoy to Sudan announced his arrival in Geneva to hold talks to end the Sudanese crisis.

Upon his arrival in Geneva, Brillio said on his X account: “Thanks to Saudi Arabia and Switzerland as co-hosts, I am pleased to arrive in Geneva from Jeddah to launch this urgent international effort in Switzerland to end the crisis in Sudan.”

He added: "In addition to consultations with the parties, we heard from tens of thousands of civilians inside and outside Sudan.. Their message is clear: they want an end to the daily terrorism of bombing, starvation and siege," he said.

"The United States and our partners are committed to responding to this call," he said.

On July 23, the US State Department called on the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to participate in ceasefire negotiations mediated by Washington, which will begin in Switzerland next Wednesday. The commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti”, then announced his approval of the US invitation.

Since mid-April 2023, the army and the Rapid Support Forces have been waging a war that has left about 18,800 dead and nearly 10 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.

On Sunday, the head of the Sudanese government delegation negotiating in the Saudi city of Jeddah (Minister of Minerals), Mohammed Bashir Abu Namu, announced the end of the consultative meetings with the US administration without reaching an agreement on the Sudanese delegation’s participation in peace negotiations in Switzerland.
