Jordan, Greek Cyprus discuss 'immediate and permanent' ceasefire in Gaza
Jordan and the Greek Cypriot government discussed on Thursday ways to intensify international efforts to reach an "immediate and permanent" ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli occupation, with American support, is waging a war on Gaza that has entered its 11th month, leaving more than 131,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amidst massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children.
On Thursday, King Abdullah II of Jordan made a phone call to the President of the Greek Cypriot Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, according to a statement by the Royal Court.
The two sides stressed "the need to intensify international efforts to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."
The King of Jordan reiterated that "stopping the war on Gaza is a basic requirement to prevent further escalation in the region."
He also renewed his call on the countries of the world to "strengthen the humanitarian response in Gaza."
For the 18th year, Tel Aviv has besieged the Gaza Strip, and its war has forced about two million of its citizens, numbering about 2.3 million Palestinians, to flee in catastrophic conditions, with a severe and deliberate shortage of food, water and medicine.
King Abdullah stressed the "importance of working to find a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution (Palestinian and Israeli)."
In disregard of the international community, the Israeli occupation continues its war on Gaza, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to end it immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the dire humanitarian situation in the Strip.
Tel Aviv is also defying the request of the International Criminal Court's Prosecutor Karim Khan to issue arrest warrants against its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and its Defense Minister Yoav Galant for their responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
