Palestinian Cabinet warns of epidemic disaster in Gaza
The Council of Ministers discussed in its weekly session today, Tuesday, the continuation of efforts to stop the war on our people in the Gaza Strip, which has been ongoing for the 305th day, and the systematic targeting of the West Bank governorates, the latest of which were the city of Jenin and its camp, the village of Kafr Qud, and the town of Aqaba in Tubas Governorate, and the rise of a number of martyrs and the injury of a number of other citizens, and the occupation’s deliberate destruction of the infrastructure and the sabotage of citizens’ property.
The Council also called on international institutions to assume their responsibilities in light of the warnings that the health situation in the Gaza Strip is out of control, especially after recording more than 100,000 cases of viral hepatitis, while there were only a few dozen cases in the Strip before the start of the aggression on Gaza.
The Council discussed concerns about the possibility of a polio outbreak in the Gaza Strip, and the urgent steps taken by the Ministry of Health to examine new samples to verify the case. At the same time, the government immediately began working to provide 1.2 million doses to vaccinate all children in the Strip from one day old to 8 years old, to be used if needed.
In another context, the Council discussed the necessary precautionary steps in the event of a deterioration in the security situation in the region, and directed the competent authorities, headed by the Supreme Council for Civil Defense, to follow up on the necessary precautionary measures, while stressing the Ministry of Economy’s report on the existence of a sufficient stock of food supplies.
The Minister of Agriculture presented the work strategy in the agricultural sector for the development and governance of the agricultural sector in the areas of water and food security, greening Palestine, and urgent response to aid farmers.
The strategy included detailed aspects of work in the aforementioned development fields in order to enhance food security and develop resilience capabilities, including: rehabilitating water wells, enhancing livestock, increasing agricultural grain production quantities, and preparing to launch a national workshop to discuss the strategy for development and government of the agricultural sector.
The Council also reviewed the report of the Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs on all Israeli violations in Jerusalem and its suburbs during the month of July 2024, and the efforts made by the competent authorities, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to follow up on these violations with international institutions and diplomatic missions.
