The US Department of Defense announced, at dawn on Saturday, the sending of more military assets to the Middle East.

The Pentagon said the US military would deploy additional fighter jets and warships to the region.

The US Secretary of Defense ordered the dispatch of Navy aircraft and destroyers to the Middle East, in addition to sending an additional fighter squadron.

The Pentagon also revealed increased military readiness in the Middle East by deploying additional missile defenses.

The US Navy said that the aircraft carrier "Roosevelt" arrived at the Strait of Hormuz off Iran.

The US Army said that the Roosevelt arrived at the Fifth Fleet's area of operations on July 12.

Meanwhile, US officials told CNN, "We are monitoring the region for any indications of a possible Iranian response."

This comes at a time when the United States expects Iran to carry out its threats to respond to the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh two days ago in Tehran as the Gaza war rages on.
