Israeli soldier accused of assaulting Palestinian prisoners.. Shin Bet alerted the police before storming "Beit Lid"
The Shin Bet security service warned the Israeli police yesterday evening, Monday, of a raid on the "Beit Lid" base, two hours before it actually happened by right-wing supporters, following the arrest of 9 reserve soldiers on suspicion of involvement in a group sexual assault on a Palestinian prisoner from the Gaza Strip in the "Sde Teiman" facility, which resulted in his serious injury.
Despite the Shin Bet's warning, no police forces were present when the military base was stormed, arriving hours after clashes between soldiers at the base and right-wing supporters.
The military prosecution today submitted a request to impose a publication ban on the names of the interrogators of the suspected soldiers, in what was considered "fear for their safety." The soldiers' defense team also requested a publication ban on the soldiers' identities, claiming that this "threatens their safety and security and that there is a high possibility of attempts to harm them."
In this context, an indictment was filed today against an Israeli reserve soldier for assaulting Palestinian prisoners in dangerous circumstances.
The indictment states that, “in several incidents during the period from February to June 2024, the accused, while guarding the transfer of security prisoners, seriously assaulted the prisoners for whose protection he was responsible.”
