Türkiye threatens military intervention to support Palestinians

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stepped up his rhetoric against the Israeli occupation, suggesting Turkey could intervene on behalf of the Palestinians, possibly with military support, in ways similar to what it has done in other conflicts.

“We must be very strong so that Israel cannot do these things to Palestine,” Erdogan said in his hometown of Rize on Sunday. “Just as we entered Karabakh and Libya, we may do the same here. There is nothing we cannot do. We must be very strong.”

Erdogan spoke vaguely and did not suggest he was considering any military operations in the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip. However, his comments underscore growing hostility toward Israel and could cause turmoil in Turkish financial markets this week, according to Bloomberg News.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the end of "genocidaire (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu" will be similar to the end of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

In a post on the X platform, the ministry said: “Whatever the end of the genocidaire Hitler was, so will the end of the genocidaire Netanyahu.”

Affirming that “humanity will stand with the Palestinians,” she said, addressing those targeting the Palestinian people: “You will not be able to exterminate them.”

She added: “Just as the Nazis who committed mass crimes were held accountable, so will those who seek to exterminate the Palestinians be held accountable.”

In a sudden escalation, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz issued a warning to President Erdogan after the latter threatened military intervention.

“Erdogan is following in Saddam Hussein’s footsteps and threatening to attack Israel,” Katz wrote on social media platform X late Sunday. “He should just remember what happened there and how it ended.”
