UAE calls for deployment of 'temporary international mission' in Gaza
The UAE called for the "deployment of a temporary international mission" in Gaza, as the Israeli occupation's aggression on the Strip enters its tenth month.
According to the official UAE news agency, WAM, on Thursday, Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al Hashimy, said that "establishing peace and security and ending human suffering must begin with the deployment of a temporary international mission in Gaza at the official invitation of the Palestinian government."
She added that this mission will be responsible for responding to the humanitarian crisis, establishing law and order, and paving the way for the reunification of Gaza and the West Bank under one legitimate Palestinian authority.
Al Hashimi stressed that the UAE believes that achieving stability and peace in the region requires a sustainable and just solution to the "Palestinian-Israeli" conflict, which includes a political path leading to a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living in security and peace alongside the Israeli occupation.
The 33rd Arab Summit, held in Bahrain last May, called for the deployment of international forces in the occupied Palestinian territories until the two-state solution is implemented.
Al Hashimi pointed out that the UAE believes that the first step to achieving peace and security in the Palestinian territories is an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all detainees and prisoners.
The Israeli occupation continues its aggression on the Gaza Strip for the 293rd consecutive day, committing more bloody massacres in Khan Yunis and several areas in the stricken Strip, resulting in the martyrdom of 39,175 Palestinians and the injury of 90,403 since October 7, 2023.
On Wednesday, Agence France-Presse reported, quoting an American official, that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the release of detainees were in its "final stages."
"We believe that (things) are in their final stages and it is possible to conclude an agreement," the senior US administration official said, requesting anonymity, according to Agence France-Presse.
