Israeli official: Netanyahu's new demand threatens to thwart the prisoner exchange deal

An Israeli official familiar with the prisoner exchange deal negotiations said, “Prime Minister Netanyahu’s new demand to prevent the return of militants to the northern Gaza Strip threatens to thwart the talks on the deal.” According to what was reported by the Walla website.

It was reported that Netanyahu presented his demand during the consultations he held yesterday with the negotiating team, and many of them expressed their reservations about his demand and told him that it was not implementable.

The Israeli official stated, “Netanyahu informed the members of the negotiating team that he adheres to this demand,” and some members of the negotiating team believe that this demand is tactical for negotiation purposes only in an attempt to obtain additional concessions from Hamas.

An Israeli official expressed his reservations about Netanyahu's demand, saying, "There is a good deal on the table that can be concluded, but the new demand regarding preventing the return of militants to the northern Gaza Strip may disrupt the negotiations."

He added, "This is a demand that was not present in the Israeli proposal presented on May 27. It is not clear why Netanyahu is making this demand. The security services will know how to deal with the return of terrorists to the northern Gaza Strip."
