The “Gaza deal” is not on the horizon!
US intelligence warns of an imminent large-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah, and that a comprehensive war will soon break out between the two parties unless Israel and Hamas reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Despite intense US-brokered negotiations, a Gaza deal is not on the horizon. US President Joe Biden and his national security team are trying to persuade Israel and Hezbollah to stop the war, but without success so far.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies are under domestic political pressure to push Hezbollah away from the border so that the 60,000 settlers who fled the northern part to escape Hezbollah's rocket fire can, citing two senior American officials familiar with current intelligence. Both the IDF and Hezbollah are formulating battle plans and are now shopping for more weapons. American officials fear that the violent fighting between Israel and Hezbollah will ignite a regional conflict and draw American forces into the battle to aid Tel Aviv in its aggression. Some European intelligence agencies came up with more dramatic assessments. Many European countries and Canada advised their citizens to leave Lebanon, and Canada is preparing to evacuate its citizens. The Pentagon is moving US military assets, including the USS Wasp, an amphibious assault ship, and Marines from the 24th Expeditionary Unit, closer to Israel and Lebanon to be ready to evacuate Americans.
What raised the concern of Washington and the West is that southern Lebanon would turn into another Gaza, and then this would extend to all of Lebanon... Satellites showed how Israeli air strikes destroyed the Lebanese border village of Aita al-Shaab over months of cross-border air strikes. The village is known as a Hezbollah stronghold. This prompted the United States to prepare to evacuate Americans from Lebanon if the fighting intensifies between Israel and Hezbollah.
US officials are increasingly concerned that Israel will carry out air strikes and a possible ground attack in Lebanon in the coming weeks; The USS Wasp moved to the Mediterranean last Wednesday to join the landing ship USS Oak Hill and another ship in their amphibious readiness group, according to the Marine Corps. The WASP unit and the Marine Corps unit aim to project military power and be a deterrent to regional escalation, according to a US official familiar with the plans.
Despite pressure from the Biden administration, Israeli officials have remained firm in their desire to go after Hezbollah in Lebanon, according to US officials familiar with the talks. Israel hopes to create a 10-mile buffer zone along the Lebanese border, according to American and Israeli officials.
An Israeli official said that Israel wants to push Hezbollah away from the border, and is pressing for a diplomatic solution, but if that does not succeed, the Israeli army is ready to use force... Marines from the 24th Marine Unit are being trained to help civilians. To escape dangerous environments. The WASP group also has attack and surveillance capabilities, and can deploy long-range F-35 stealth aircraft and fighters.
The United States is also talking to close allies to coordinate evacuations and any coalition military operations, according to US defense officials.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant was in Washington last week to meet with senior Biden administration officials, and all plans were discussed, especially diplomacy.
On the other hand, Iran and Hezbollah are not looking for an all-out war with Israel, and they prefer the current situation, which puts Israel under international pressure. According to current and former American and Western officials, the fighting in Gaza and the north is exhausting the Israeli army, fueling political divisions. Internal affairs, and builds tensions with Israeli allies. US officials still say they see no evidence yet that a major escalation is imminent.
In response to a question about whether the United States is taking more precautions in the region as tensions rise between Israel and Hezbollah, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby said last Wednesday: “It is something we are monitoring closely. We continue to monitor. We are "Also by adjusting force protection procedures and protocols as the threat changes."
In a statement, Adrienne Watson, spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council, said that restoring calm along the Israeli-Lebanese border “remains a top priority for the United States, and must be of the utmost importance to both Lebanon and Israel. We continue to work toward a solution.” A diplomat that allows the Israelis and Lebanese to return safely to their homes and live in peace and security.”
