Hundreds of demonstrators try to reach Netanyahu's headquarters in Jerusalem
Hundreds of Israeli demonstrators tried to reach the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in West Jerusalem, to pressure the government to conclude a prisoner exchange deal with the Palestinian factions.
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that hundreds of Israelis demonstrated near Netanyahu’s residence on Gaza Street in West Jerusalem, and tried to reach the headquarters, but the police prevented them. Dozens of demonstrators in the city of Tel Aviv, demanding the conclusion of an exchange deal, tried to close a section of the main Ayalon Street in the center of the city. According to the same source.
In the city of Netanya, hundreds of Israelis demonstrated at its entrance, raising a large banner that read, “Enough, government of destruction.”
Earlier on Sunday, Netanyahu said that the plan approved by his government, and welcomed by US President Joe Biden, would allow Israel to return the prisoners without compromising the other goals of the war.
According to official Israeli reports, indirect negotiations have resumed between Israel and Hamas to reach an agreement to exchange prisoners and ceasefire in Gaza.
For months, mediation efforts led by Qatar, Egypt and the United States have been trying to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas that would guarantee an exchange of prisoners from both sides and a ceasefire, leading to ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged Palestinian Strip. However, the mediation efforts were hampered due to Netanyahu’s refusal to respond to Hamas’ demands to stop the war. .
Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with American support, which has left more than 125,000 Palestinians martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and great famine.
Israel continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the miserable humanitarian situation in Gaza.
