Israeli forces obstruct access to the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron
Today, Saturday, Israeli measures in the vicinity of the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron, south of the West Bank, hindered the arrival of worshipers and participation in the event commemorating the Prophet’s migration called for by the Palestinian Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.
The director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, Sheikh Moataz Abu Sneina, said: “Today, on the anniversary of the Prophet’s Migration, activities are being held in the Haram, but compared to past years, the Haram is almost empty of worshipers and expatriates due to the occupation’s measures.”
He added that the Israeli measures are strict, noting that "the gates of the Mosque are closed except for one," calling on the Palestinians to "intensify their presence and station in the mosque despite the existing obstacles."
Sunday falls on the Hijri New Year 1446 AH, which is an official holiday, but the Hebron Endowments Department called for it to be celebrated on Saturday, when verses of the Holy Qur’an are recited and lessons, religious supplications, and sermons are given.
The Ibrahimi Mosque is located in the Old City of Hebron, which is under the control of the Israeli occupation, and is home to about 400 settlers, guarded by about 1,500 Israeli soldiers.
