Lapid: There is no greater gift to Israel's enemies than Netanyahu and Ben Gvir

On Wednesday, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid attacked both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, and considered that there is no greater gift to "Israel's enemies" than them.

Lapid said on the X platform: “There is no greater gift to Israel’s enemies than Minister Ben Gvir, and there is no greater gift to Israel’s enemies than Netanyahu’s lack of responsibility.”

He added: "I thought that October 7 was the lowest point in our lives, but it was not the lowest point, just the beginning of the decline."

In Israel, October 7 is viewed as a day of security, intelligence, and military failure in the face of Hamas’s sudden attacks on 11 military bases and 22 settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

These attacks were launched by Hamas, according to the movement, in response to "the daily crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and their sanctities, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city of East Jerusalem."

Ben Gvir, leader of the far-right "Jewish Power" party, faces international criticism for his call for the forced displacement of Palestinians, the promotion of settlement, the occupation of Gaza, and the execution of Gazan prisoners in Israeli prisons.

According to Lapid: “There was no greater gift to Israel’s enemies than Netanyahu’s irresponsibility. If he does not regulate order when there is a quarrel that harms Shin Bet during the war, then why should he be prime minister?”

In the past two days, Ben Gvir attacked the head of the General Security Agency (Shin Bet), Ronen Bar, and called for his resignation against the backdrop of the release of Palestinian prisoners, including the director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, Dr. Muhammad Abu Salamiya.

For months, Lapid has been calling for the resignation of Netanyahu's right-wing government, which has been in power since December 2022.

The opposition accuses Netanyahu of following policies that serve his own interests, especially continuing in office, and failing to achieve the declared goals of the war on Gaza, especially eliminating Hamas’ capabilities and returning Israeli prisoners from the Strip.

On the other hand, Netanyahu refuses to resign and hold early elections, which he claims would “paralyze the state” and freeze negotiations on the release of prisoners for a period of up to 8 months.
