Hezbollah bombs Israeli sites, and Cohen calls for a wide-scale war against Lebanon
Hezbollah announced - today, Tuesday - that its fighters bombed 7 Israeli targets in the Galilee and the occupied hills of Kafr Shuba, while Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen called for the start of a large-scale military operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Hezbollah said it targeted buildings used by Israeli soldiers in the settlements of Granot Hagalil, Kfar Giladi, Metulla, Doviv, and Ramot Naftali. He added that he bombed the Ma'yan Baruch and Al-Samaqa sites.
On the other hand, Israeli fighters and drones launched 7 raids on the towns of Aitaroun, Aita al-Shaab, Kafr Kila, Markba, Blida, and the vicinity of the town of Joya. Israeli artillery also bombed several border towns in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah mourned a fighter who died in southern Lebanon.
Threat of war
In turn, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen called for the start of a large-scale military operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Cohen told local Kol Hai radio, "The red lines have been crossed in the north, and we have to start a military operation there, and there is no other option."
Regarding the scenario of a widespread electricity outage in northern Israel if war breaks out, Cohen said, “I did not buy a generator. We generate electricity from dozens of sources. We have underground bunkers. There is no room for panic.”
For his part, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich renewed his call to launch what he called a defensive war and transfer the buffer zone from Israeli territory to southern Lebanon.
Smotrich added that the agreement with Hezbollah is not worth the paper it will be written on, and said that if Israel does not take the decision to expand the military confrontation and strike Hezbollah's capabilities, it will pay a heavy price in the future, costing the lives of thousands of soldiers.
Recent weeks have witnessed an escalation between Hezbollah and Israel, which raised fears of the outbreak of a comprehensive war, especially with the Israeli army announcing a week ago that it had approved operational plans for a large-scale attack on Lebanon.
Lebanese and Palestinian factions in Lebanon, most notably Hezbollah, have been exchanging daily cross-border bombing with the Israeli army since October 8.
These factions condition the cessation of the bombing on Israel ending the war it has been waging, with American support, on the Gaza Strip since last October 7.
