Netanyahu's lawyers demand postponement of his trial hearings in corruption cases
The defense team for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked today, Wednesday, to postpone the presentation of the defense case in his trial in corruption cases, and to postpone the start of the stage of presenting defense evidence and testimonies until March 2025, under the pretext of his preoccupation with managing the war that Israel has been waging in the Gaza Strip for 264 years. One day.
This came in an official request submitted by Netanyahu’s lawyers to the District Court in Jerusalem, which is examining the corruption files in which Netanyahu is being tried, according to what Israeli media reported this evening, noting that the first witness to be heard is the main accused in the case, Netanyahu himself.
The request submitted by Netanyahu’s lawyers stated, “On normal days, preparing to hear the testimony of an accused of this size requires a long period of time. In the current reality, the defense must prepare the Prime Minister to testify in the midst of war, and the pause required to prepare the Prime Minister to testify, in a way that does not prejudice his rights.” And his defense is very long.”
Defense lawyers also requested a hearing before the start of the defense case regarding the request for protection from justice that they will submit, in which they are expected to demand “the dismissal of the indictment due to failures and irregularities in the investigation process and selective enforcement of the law” by the police and investigative agencies in Netanyahu’s corruption files.
Defense lawyers for the other defendants in Netanyahu’s corruption cases, Shaul and Iris Elovitch, and Arnon Mozes, told the court that they also believe that there is a need for a “long period of time” to prepare the defense case in the pending cases, and that they agree with the arguments presented by the prime minister’s lawyers in this regard. .
