The Israeli ambassador to Bogota left the country, after Colombia severed its diplomatic relations with Israel due to the ongoing attacks against Palestinians in Gaza.

The Israeli Ambassador, Gali Dagan, expressed his thanks to Colombia in a video he posted on social media.

He added: "I'm starting to miss you now. See you."

According to local media, Colombia's ambassador to Tel Aviv, Margarita Manjarrez, will also end her diplomatic mission in Israel by the end of this June.

On May 1, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced in a speech during a celebration in the capital, Bogota, on International Workers’ Day, that his country would sever its diplomatic relations with Israel as a result of its ongoing war on the Gaza Strip.

He attributed the decision to "the presence of a government and a president (in Israel) who practice genocide," and stressed that "the era of genocide and the annihilation of a people before our eyes cannot return," warning that "if Palestine dies, humanity dies."
