Blinken visits Israel, Egypt, Qatar and Jordan to advance the ceasefire proposal in Gaza
US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, will head next week to the Middle East to push forward a ceasefire proposal between Israel and Hamas, according to what the US State Department announced on Friday.
This is Blinken's eighth tour in the region since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza on October 7, and will take place from Monday until Wednesday and will include Israel, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan, according to the same source.
The United States is pressing for the adoption of a ceasefire proposal between Israel and the Hamas movement that President Joe Biden announced a few days ago, and its implementation extends over three stages that lead to stopping the war, exchanging prisoners, and rebuilding the Gaza Strip.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement that Blinken "will stress the importance of Hamas accepting the proposal on the table, which is almost identical to the proposal that Hamas agreed to last month."
He added that the American minister "will discuss how the ceasefire proposal will benefit both the Israelis and the Palestinians," noting that Blinken "will confirm that (the proposal) will alleviate suffering in Gaza, allow for a massive increase in humanitarian aid, and allow the Palestinians to return to their neighborhoods."
Blinken will arrive in the region from France, where he accompanied President Joe Biden in a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the landing of the Allied forces in Normandy.
The American minister will return from his Middle Eastern tour on Wednesday to participate with Biden in the summit of the Group of Seven major industrialized countries in Italy.
