A Belgian minister sues a company that transported military equipment to Israel
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport George Gilkennet filed a lawsuit against the Israeli airline Challenge Airlines, over its shipment of military equipment to Israel from Liège International Airport in Belgium.
Gilkennet said - according to the Flemish-language newspaper De Morgen - that after news circulated about Challenge Airlines transporting military equipment to Israel through Liège Airport, the necessary investigations were conducted and a lawsuit was filed as a result.
He considered that the matter is now up to the court to take the necessary steps, noting that transporting explosives by air requires obtaining a special permit, which the airline in question does not have, according to him.
Justifying the move, he said that it also aims to close all legal loopholes in the way of arms transfers to Israel, so that we can contribute to stopping atrocities in the Gaza Strip.
He added: We must prevent Belgium from arming the Israeli army and being passively complicit in the massacre in Gaza.
It should be noted that 4 Belgian civil organizations announced that American weapons sent to Israel are transported through Liège International Airport, located east of the capital, Brussels.
The Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which has been ongoing since October 7, left more than 118,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Israel continues this war, ignoring a Security Council resolution demanding that it stop the fighting immediately, and orders from the Court of Justice to stop its attack on Rafah, and take immediate measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
