Macron welcomes the Gaza ceasefire proposal
On Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip, which was announced by US President Joe Biden, calling for an end to the war with the aim of achieving “lasting peace.”
This came in a post in Arabic, Hebrew and English on Macron’s account on the X platform.
Macron said, "We support a proposal announced by the United States for a comprehensive agreement, and we are also working with our partners in the region to achieve peace and security for all."
He called for "the release of the hostages, and a permanent ceasefire in Gaza with the aim of working to achieve peace, and progress in implementing the principle of the two-state solution."
Yesterday, Friday, the American President claimed that Israel had presented a three-stage proposal that includes a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of detainees, and the reconstruction of the Strip.
Biden urged Hamas to accept the proposal, and also urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "to avoid pressure from members of his ruling coalition who oppose the proposal."
Contrary to what was stated in Biden’s speech at the White House, Netanyahu’s office said that the latter “insists on not ending the war on the Gaza Strip until all its goals are achieved.”
Meanwhile, Hamas said in a statement that it would deal “positively with any proposal based on a permanent ceasefire, complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction, the return of the displaced, and the completion of a serious prisoner exchange deal.”
