Netanyahu in response to Biden: The conditions for ending the war in the Gaza Strip have not changed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed today (Saturday) that fulfilling all of Israel's conditions is the way to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

This comes the day after US President Joe Biden announced that Israel “presented a new road map” with three stages to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, while Hamas, which received the proposal from Qatar, said that it viewed the proposal “positively.”

Netanyahu said in a statement issued by his office that Israel's conditions for ending the war have not changed.

The statement added that the conditions include destroying Hamas' military and governmental capabilities, releasing all hostages, and ensuring that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel, stressing that the idea of Israel agreeing to a permanent ceasefire before these conditions are met is "unacceptable."

According to the road map presented by Israel to the American side, the first phase includes a complete ceasefire for a period of six weeks, the withdrawal of Israeli military forces from populated areas in Gaza, and the release of women, the elderly, and the wounded held hostage in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

At the same time, Palestinian civilians will return to their homes and neighborhoods in “all areas of Gaza,” including the north, and 600 aid trucks will enter the Strip daily.

During the first phase, the second phase will be discussed, and the terms for a permanent cessation of hostilities will be negotiated, and US President Joe Biden said that the six-week ceasefire will continue as long as the negotiations continue.

In the second phase, all living hostages, including soldiers, will be released, and the temporary ceasefire will become permanent, while the third phase will see the bodies of the hostages returned to their families and the start of a major reconstruction plan in Gaza.

Hamas expressed in a statement that it views “positively” the proposal announced by the US President.

The movement said in a statement, “The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas views positively what was included in US President Joe Biden’s speech, which included his call for a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction, and an exchange of prisoners.”

The statement added, "The movement affirms its readiness to deal positively and constructively with any proposal based on a permanent ceasefire, complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction, the return of the displaced to all their places of residence, and the completion of a serious prisoner exchange deal if the occupation declares its explicit commitment to that."
